PICKERSGILL-KAYE BECOMES PART OF ASSA ABLOY

Pickersgill-Kaye Ltd has been acquired by ASSA ABLOY, the global leader in door opening solutions. The business will be known as Pickersgill-Kaye and now forms part of the CLCS Group, continuing to operate independently from its Leeds manufacturing facility.

The acquisition will offer Pickersgill-Kaye the chance to expand into new world markets and further develop its range of locks and products for the rail, security and custodial industries, while it allows ASSA ABLOY to enter the rail locking sector and gives it a major manufacturing capability in the UK to develop high security locks.

Pickersgill-Kaye's Director Business Development, Harry Griffiths, said: "Being part of ASSA ABLOY gives Pickersgill-Kaye the support needed to achieve  further growth, boost product development and increase the global reach of our range of locks and security products in very challenging market sectors."

With a reputation for innovation, well-designed and high quality engineered products, excellent service and strong customer relationships, Pickersgill-Kaye is confident that having access to the market strengths of ASSA ABLOY will bring even more success to the company and its customers.

ON TRACK TO BREAK INTO RAIL MARKET DOWN UNDER
Pickersgill-Kaye is expanding its sales activities into Australia and The Pacific after generating enquiries by joining the successful UKTI Northern Powerhouse trade mission to AusRail PLUS 2015.

Australia's rail industry has been changing rapidly with unprecedented level of investment across the network. Pickersgill-Kaye says it has received encouraging sales enquiries from local rail suppliers while Down Under sharing a stand with UKTI at the prestigious exhibition in Melbourne.

AusRail   The AusRail PLUS exhibition is renowned for creating good business for British companies. There has been interest in Pickersgill-Kaye's retrofit locomotive cab door locks. The company has also received an enquiry for locks for trams, generated by ASSA ABLOY Australia, whose impressive factory in Melbourne was on the trip's itinerary for Director Business Development, Harry Griffiths.

Harry said: "We had already committed to attend AusRail with the UKTI Northern Powerhouse trade mission before the takeover by ASSA ABLOY. There are a lot of aging locos Down Under which need potential refurbishment. We have made a good contact from attending AusRail PLUS with UKTI and are now discussing potential trials of our products."

DB Cargo UK (formerly DB Schenker Rail UK), the country's largest freight operator, turned to Pickersgill-Kaye because it needed to replace the original cab locks during an overhaul of its 30-strong fleet of Class 67 diesel-electric locomotives. Andy Hewitt, Pickersgill-Kaye's Rail Products Sales Manager, said: "We produced a perfect fitting lock that will last for its design life of at least 30 years." There is a move towards higher quality, more robust products - which is where Pickersgill-Kaye's strengths lie. The locks can last the lifetime of the locomotive.

Pickersgill-Kaye's rail expertise has helped an engineering company completely re-build the cab lay-out of a locomotive.

The company supplied RVEL with new cab door locks and two-position locks for side panels for the Class 73 locomotives, which were being modernised in Derby.

Pickersgill-Kaye's Rail Products Sales Manager, Andy Hewitt, said: "RVEL is giving the Class 73 locomotives a new lease of life to keep them in service for the next 30 years, which is where Pickersgill-Kaye comes in."

He added: "Many operators are specifying Pickersgill-Kaye locks to train manufacturers. We can make standard products or bespoke designs to the customer's specifications - and our locks last the lifetime of the locomotive."
