  PICKERSGILL-KAYE LOCKS IN OVERSEAS ORDERS

Pickersgill-Kaye has posted sales of over £2.3million for the year  ending November 2013, of which 34% (£783,000) was export business - the biggest proportion of total sales the company has ever achieved.

Last year the company won contracts with global railway suppliers like Axion Technologies for passenger alarm units for the Toronto transit system, toilet door switch units supplied to EVAC in Germany, cab door locks for Irish Rail and budget locks and break panels for Siemens' Desiro trains.

On the other side of the world, an initial order has been received from Jardine Engineering for cell door locks and strikers for the first railway satellite police station on a new rail link between Hong Kong and China as well as EED and EAD units for Hitachi in Japan.

International demand for Pickersgill-Kaye's range of high security and custodial locks for prisons and police stations have also been brisk with on- going sales of cell door locks, strikers and hatches to Ireland, multi-point locks to a Libyan company and Kaye-Rota padlocks for France.

Sales Director, Harry Griffiths, said: "During the last 12 months the company has maintained exports to the three continents of Asia, America and Europe."

PICKERSGILLS' COATING AND ELECTROPLATING SKILLS GIVE BIKE STAND MANUFACTURER A LIFT
Pickersgills' powder coating and electroplating skills are helping a ground-breaking British invention for the motorcycle industry expand into new markets, both at home and overseas.

Leeds-based 1Jac Ltd supplies the innovative 1Jac Stand, a motorcycle lift manufactured entirely in the UK, which was originally designed in the eighties but has recently been re-launched. It is a precision-built, compact paddock stand that can be tailor-made for most sports bikes.

1jac stand   1Jac operations manager, Chris Hiles, said: "We launched the new design in October 2013. Our collaboration with Pickergills is contributing to our success. We appreciate that we are a customer-driven company that likes things done yesterday, but nothing seems to faze Pickersgills. The quality of finishing is first class and the service is excellent. I would definitely recommend them."

Pickersgills is currently powder coating 60 of the 1Jac lift's base a month in black paint, in addition to electroplating hundreds of lug, spring and frame pins that make up the adaptor kit. 1Jac is confident that there is a huge market for the product and Pickergills' attention to detail and flexibility will help the stand take off.

  MAJOR INVESTMENT FOR PICKERSGILL-KAYE
Pickersgill-Kaye and sister company Pickersgills will benefit from significant investment being made by parent company, Joseph Kaye Holdings Group, in new software systems at its Leeds manufacturing plant that will help boost productivity and bring customer benefits.

PKaye data   More than £100,000 is being spent by the Group on new computer equipment, software and training from Epicor for an ERP solution that is designed to streamline the firm's entire data operations, from manufacturing to administration and customer service. The Group believes that consolidating all its information on a single database makes financial and production sense. Group Managing Director, Peter Murphy, said: "Investing in ERP will free up decision making and help us grow. It will allow staff to do more productive things rather than processing and computer inputting."

  MINISTER IS BRIEFED IN HALIFAX
Chris Grayling   In March, Chris Grayling, the Secretary of State for Justice, visited Halifax Police Station.

He also inspected the station's new police cells which have all been equipped with Pickersgill-Kaye's locks and hatches.

He met Sales Director, Harry Griffiths, where he received a briefing on the 8-lever Kaye Class 1 custodial cell lock, developed in response to growing demand for more choice and innovation in the custodial sector.

Mr Grayling said: "Supporting SMEs like Pickersgill-Kaye who make good products, is really important. Parliament is keen for Government to buy locally if possible."
