PICKERSGILL-KAYE A RAIL CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Pickersgill-Kaye, which became a trading division of ASSA ABLOY Limited from February 1 2017, is to become a specialist production base for the rail industry following the announcement of significant new investment by the global leader in door opening solutions.

A dedicated R&D facility and rail centre of excellence will be created as part of an overhaul of Pickersgill-Kaye's Leeds plant to help drive oppportunities for the company in the rail sector through innovation and improved service levels for its emergency override mechanisms, safety critical solutions and locking equipment.

ASSA ABLOY's level of investment is a demonstration of its commitment to the business by creating the right environment to develop the next generation of specialist products for the rail industry both at home and overseas. The Leeds facility will become a design hub for future locking solutions tailored to meet customers' specific requirements.

Managing Director, Simon Teagle, said: "Pickersgill-Kaye has been heavily allied to the rail industry for over 150 years and it is this expertise and knowledge that was one of the rationales for acquiring the company and  Investing in design technology."

NEW RECRUITS BY DESIGN AT PICKERSGILL-KAYE
We welcome Fergus Johnson-Martin and apprentice Anthony Storr to the team at Pickersgill-Kaye as part of the ongoing investment made by owner ASSA ABLOY in turning the business into a specialist production base for the rail industry.

Design engineer Fergus is originally from Bristol and recently joined Pickersgill-Kaye in a graduate's role from Leeds University, while Anthony has just started his apprenticeship in manufacturing and engineering. Both are based at our new rail centre of excellence.

ASSA ABLOY says that these appointments (Fergus is pictured on the left) reflect the investment strategy which includes attracting and recruiting more designers to make the Leeds facility a manufacturing design hub for creating future locking solutions tailored to meet customers' specific requirements. This  considerable support will help Pickersgill-Kaye to compete and win further orders for high profile projects against often tough overseas competition.

Managing Director, Simon Teagle, said: "We are delighted that Fergus and Anthony have taken on their new roles with Pickersgill-Kaye. Employing the next generation of designers and investing in the latest design technology will enable us to continue to support the rail sector in the UK."
